That cash shoved bitcoin’s price up from “maybe someday” $85,000 to “holy crap” $94,000. The hero? iShares Bitcoin Trust, or IBIT, which singlehandedly snatched $1.3 billion of those inflows, probably while wearing sunglasses indoors.

Enter Michael Saylor, Chairman of Strategy (MSTR) and proud owner of a bitcoin fortune that probably makes Jeff Bezos a bit jittery. He boldly predicted at the Bitcoin Standard Corporation’s Investor Day that IBIT will be the biggest ETF on the planet in 10 years. Because why aim small?

To add some numbers before we all start selling our organs to buy bitcoin—IBIT’s sitting at a $54 billion market cap and doing over $1.5 billion in volume one day last week. Compare that to the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO), the granddaddy ETF with $593.5 billion market cap, and you realize IBIT’s still the scrappy underdog flexing in the gym.

Bloomberg’s very serious Senior ETF Analyst, Eric Balchunas, gave us a reality check, saying IBIT becoming the biggest ETF is like seeing a unicorn but possible if unicorns liked inflows of $3 to $4 billion daily instead of just dreams.

Meanwhile, bitcoin ETF fans are playing a game of high-stakes financial Twister. The annualized basis trade where folks go long on ETFs and short on CME bitcoin futures nearly doubled from 5% to 10% since April. Futures open interest shot up by 2,000 BTC this week, so it’s not all butterflies and rainbows—some of these moves smell like perfectly planned chess, not just wild gambling.
