Malcolm in the Middle Makes History with Non-Binary Character in Disney Revival!

It’s been verified that the forthcoming reboot of “Malcolm in the Middle” will undoubtedly include a character who identifies as non-binary.

Back in February, a rumor circulated online suggesting that the youngest member of the Wilkerson family identifies as non-binary. This claim was further discussed by various publications in March.

In the TV show that Frankie Muniz stars in, it’s Kelly, the youngest sibling of Malcolm’s character, who is newly introduced (first hinted in the final episode). This role is played by the versatile actor Vaughan Murrae, who identifies as non-binary and uses “they/them” pronouns on their Instagram page. Interestingly, Vaughan initially thought they might be a trans man, but later learned about being non-binary.

Already wiser than most of the family

As a movie lover, I’m thrilled to share that following March’s announcement by Deadline, Vaughan Murrae has confirmed that her character Kelly, in Disney’s remake of “Malcolm in the Middle,” identifies as non-binary. What’s more, it seems Kelly’s voice outshines the entire family in this exciting revival!

Exciting Announcement! I’ve been keeping this secret for more than a month, and I can finally reveal it now! You’ll find me in the Malcolm in the Middle revival special, streaming exclusively on @disneyplus. Can’t wait to join you all!

I’ll be part of the cast, both old and new, playing the character ‘Kelly’. This role is a surprise in the final episode of the series for Hal, Lois, and their family, which was produced 19 years later. ‘Kelly’, who identifies as non-binary, is independent, excels academically, and possesses wisdom beyond their years, outsmarting most family members. 😉🤭

Shooting begins this April.

The revitalization encompasses four separate instances, as outlined in the logline: “Malcolm and his daughter become entangled in the family’s turmoil, as Hal and Lois insist Malcolm attend their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

In the upcoming series, Christopher Masterson makes a comeback as Francis, while Justin Berfield reappears as Reese. However, Erik Per Sullivan won’t be playing Dewey anymore. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps into the role, as it seems that Sullivan has decided to step away from acting.

Anthony Timpano is additionally portraying Jamie, Malcolm’s youngest sibling, who made his debut in the fourth season.

Kiana Madeira portrays Tristan, who is Malcolm’s girlfriend, while Keeley Karsten takes on the role of Leah, Malcolm’s daughter. Both characters exhibit similar traits to Malcolm, such as sharp wit, impulsiveness, and impressive intelligence, but Leah is depicted as being more sensitive and emotional compared to her father.
