Pedro Pascal expressed his backing for Michael B. Jordan’s latest film Sinners on Instagram with a concise yet forceful statement. In his post, the actor shared an image from the movie and wrote, “Quiet down and go watch this film.” This straightforward endorsement has piqued the interest of fans, particularly following his emotional exit from The Last of Us.
Pedro Pascal has discussed the emotional demise of his character Joel in HBO’s The Last of Us. During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he acknowledged that he’s yet to fully come to terms with it, explaining “I’m still in denial about it.
As time passes and I move further along in life, I’ve come to notice a pattern within myself: I tend to resist accepting that certain things have reached their end. Similarly, Pascal shares his personal struggle as he remains connected to his cast and crew, but grapples with the fact that he may no longer embody the character of Joel.
The April 20th episode titled “Through the Valley” depicted Joel’s demise. In this episode, the character Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, sought revenge on Joel and ended up shooting him, hitting him with a golf club, and ultimately stabbing him in the neck. Meanwhile, Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey, was unable to intervene as Joel breathed his last.
Both Pascal and Ramsey agreed that the most touching scene wasn’t Joel’s death itself, but rather Joel’s last effort to communicate with Ellie before passing away. Pascal added that it might not have been noticeable on camera, but he felt there was a faint indication that Joel could sense Ellie in his final moments and wanted to assist her, despite being unable to move.
In simpler terms, Pascal found the filming process to be emotionally intense, confessing that parting with his character was challenging. He mentioned that he usually shies away from dealing with deep emotions, making the situation all the more intricate for him.
He shared that the toughest aspect was detaching himself from something he felt deeply bonded with, more so after facing the hurdles of Season 1 alongside the entire team. Pascal referred to this departure as quite sorrowful and almost surreal. Additionally, he admitted to avoiding dwelling too much on the series to safeguard his emotional health.
