Lucasfilm revealed that their next Disney+ series would delve into the dark and thrilling world of Darth Maul through an animated production. The series is titled “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” and features Sam Witwer, a veteran voice actor who has lent his talents to Darth Maul for years.

Darth Maul, a beloved villain on the dark side, captivated many Star Wars fans first in the live-action films like “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” However, it was in the animated series created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni, particularly “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels,” that Darth Maul truly left an indelible impression. Given this, it’s no surprise that Darth Maul will continue his storyline through animation in his upcoming adventures.
Lucasfilm announces that in a new series following the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Darth Maul returns to rule the criminal underworld factions. Furthermore, the official Star Wars website reveals that the Darth Maul series will focus on Maul’s plan to reestablish his criminal empire on a planet undisturbed by the Empire, promising an exciting journey ahead!
Furthermore, during the discussion, Witwer mentioned that the storyline unfolds approximately one year following the Clone Wars. Moreover, he hinted that Darth Maul is gradually recovering from the situation where Ahsoka Tano had left him in a precarious position.
Witwer explains, “This character reveals unexpected aspects of himself. Some traits emerge that aren’t immediately apparent but align perfectly with his experiences.
Who Will Star in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord? And Who Will Write and Direct It?
Up to this point, it has been confirmed that Sam Witwer will take on the lead role for the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series centered around Darth Maul. Previously, Witwer provided the voice for Darth Maul, a character he first played in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and subsequently reprised in Star Wars Rebels. Additionally, he voiced Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Currently, it’s unclear if Dave Filoni will be involved in the creation of “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord”. Although a Darth Maul animated series seems suitable for Filoni’s expertise, as of now, we don’t have information about who will actually work on the production of this show.
