Cavill to Star in Amazon’s Highlander Reboot

It has been confirmed that Henry Cavill’s film, Highlander, is now available on Amazon. This adds to the actor’s existing lineup of projects at the studio, which includes the live-action Voltron movie and the Warhammer series.

What are the details?

According to Deadline’s reports, Scott Stuber, who currently heads the United Artists label under Amazon MGM Studios, is close to finalizing negotiations to acquire the rights for a new Highlander movie.

Previously shared news: Henry Cavill takes the lead role, while John Wick’s director, Chad Stahelski, will be at the helm. Scriptwriting duties are handled by Michael Finch, who contributed to John Wick: Chapter 4.

Previously, Lionsgate was working on the project called “Highlander”, however, a new report indicates that United Artists has acquired exclusive rights for it instead.

Amazon has a better vision

Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt from United Artists are working together with Neal H. Moritz and 87Eleven Entertainment (Stahelski’s production company) to produce this project. Additionally, Joshua Davis of Davis Panzer is involved in the production process as well.

The report indicates that Stahelski’s cinematic vision aligns more closely with Amazon’s approach, making the transition from Lionsgate advantageous for all involved parties.

Previously, it’s been noted that having Henry Cavill already on board with two projects at Amazon undeniably sped things up. Coincidentally, this announcement comes after the departure of Jennifer Salke as the head of Amazon Studios. There are rumors circulating that Salke was let go due to her perceived feminist agenda, although it’s important to note that this is merely speculation.

Henry Cavill Stars As Centuries-Old Warrior

Chad Stahelski previously talked up his Highlander movie offering it will be a big action film.

…”We’re moving the story from the Scottish highlands in the 1500s to modern-day New York and Hong Kong, exploring its journey. There’s immense potential for intrigue. This role offers an uncommon experience. It’s not just a love story, but one with an unexpected twist. On ‘John Wick,’ I picked up some valuable lessons on bending the narrative, crafting another type of myth.

500 years of experience

Stahleski hinted at the considerable role the Highlander will play, given his 500 years of accumulated wisdom.

The compelling aspect of this role was that Henry Cavill, your character has lived for more than five centuries. He’s the last person who would want to be in this situation, which offers a wide range of character development. Plus, you get to portray someone who has been trained in martial arts for over 500 years and had the chance to master various styles.
