Disgraced Producer Harvey Weinstein Wins Hospital Stay Request as Judge Rules in Favor Amid Me Too Case Trials in NY

In a decision made during the New York trials, Harvey Weinstein has been temporarily allowed hospitalization. He was transferred from Rikers Island to a New York hospital and is expected to remain there until next Thursday, prior to the upcoming hearing. As per Associated Press reports, the judge ordered Weinstein’s transfer late Thursday to the medical ward of Bellevue prison for required medical attention.

In accordance with the court’s decision, attorney Imran H. Ansari released a statement on Weinstein’s behalf, expressing satisfaction with the judge’s instruction for his transfer to the healthcare facilities at the New York Hospital.

In a subsequent remark, Ansari emphasized that Rikers Island stands out as a clear illustration of an inadequate and hazardous correctional facility. Continuing the discussion about Rikers Island, the lawyer representing the producer argued, “Mr. Weinstein has endured immense suffering within its premises. Regardless of the charges he faces, no individual with his medical condition deserves such cruel treatment, disregarding the safeguards established by our Constitution.

Following the submission of a request by the legal team of the Hollywood producer, the judge made a decision based on the motion to move Weinstein to improved facilities. The initial facility he was admitted into was considered unhealthy. Furthermore, they asserted that their client had experienced unusual weight gain.

Since his 2024 diagnosis with bone marrow cancer, Harvey Weinstein has received treatment while serving time in prison. Furthermore, he’s been treated for leukemia, diabetes, coronary artery disease, and sleep apnea at Bellevue Hospital. In September, he also underwent heart surgery.

In the meantime, the court dismissed the sex crime accusations against the producer, stating that the case had issues because it included testimonies from three individuals who were not involved in the legal proceedings.
