Criticism has arisen from various internet users and famous figures over Katy Perry’s 11-minute journey on Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft, which was funded by Jeff Bezos’ space venture. The mission has faced criticism due to concerns about its potential negative impact on the environment.
Currently, there are reports stating that Katy Perry doesn’t feel remorse about her space journey itself, but rather the way she presented it to the public. In the words of an unnamed source, as reported by the Daily Mail, “Katy isn’t sorry for going to space; it was a life-changing experience. What she does regret is turning it into such a public spectacle.
The source added that the publication was informed by Perry herself that she now feels remorse for kneeling on the ground following her landing and for the intimate shots of her within the spacecraft. Yet, the famous singer has not yet made a public comment regarding the backlash related to her suborbital space journey.
The initial space crew made up entirely of women in more than six decades features Lauren Sanchez (fiancée of Bezos), journalist Gayle King, Aisha Bowe who was once a NASA rocket scientist, civil rights advocate and bioastronautics researcher Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Regarding the recent space mission, Emily Ratajkowski expressed her views on TikTok earlier this week, stating that the space journey was “far beyond imitation,” and she criticized the six women for their actions contributing to planetary destruction. Moreover, she voiced her disgust towards their over-the-top behavior.
In the meantime, Olivia Wilde playfully criticized her Instagram Stories, making fun of how Perry acted by kissing the ground after landing. She commented, “Apparently, a billion dollars can generate some decent memes.
In a recent segment on Today with Jenna & Friends, Olivia Munn criticized a space journey as ostentatious, implying it hadn’t contributed to our understanding of the universe or benefited humanity in any meaningful way.
Amy Schumer playfully poked fun at her unexpected space journey in a humorous Instagram video. In a jest, she pretended that she was hastily included in the flight, and brandished a Black Panther toy, stating, “I’ve got this thing with me. It has no significance to me, but it was in my bag when I was on the subway, and then out of nowhere, they asked, ‘Do you want to go to space?’ So, I guess I’m going to space.
