Austin Nichols Admits Kissing 15-Year-Old Mary-Kate Olsen in Holiday in the Sun ‘Felt Weird, Wrong’

Austin Nichols played a significant part in the 2001 film “Holiday in the Sun.” Although this movie has been popular with many young audiences, the actor more recently reminisced about how unusual it felt for him to kiss a fellow actress who was quite young at the time. Nichols shared screen time with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in this production, which served as an early acting experience for him.

Reflecting on a past project during this week’s Drama Queens podcast episode, I found myself recalling the sense of unease that gripped me while filming. “Back then, I was undeniably apprehensive,” I admitted to my esteemed co-hosts and fellow One Tree Hill alumni Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz. “Mary-Kate was only fifteen years old, while I was around 18, 19, or even 20. My exact age escapes me now, but what I do remember is that I felt far too mature for the role.

Nichols went on to add, “It felt weird, and it felt wrong.”

During the podcast, Nichols pointed out that despite his youthful appearance – being lean and scholarly – there was an age gap that felt strange to him, as she was only fifteen years old, which seemed unusual.

Regarding the kissing scene, Austin Nichols mentioned that he discussed it with the producer and Mary-Kate’s father to ensure they were comfortable. Surprisingly, the adults appeared less worried than he was. Looking back on the incident, Nichols stated, “Everyone seemed untroubled, while I was quite anxious, but everything worked out well in the end. It was all very suitable for a general audience.

Regarding his worries, Sophia Bush noted that the co-actress was quite experienced in the industry, suggesting she might have kissed someone older before, specifically someone five years senior. In response, Nichols stated, “They’re more like youngsters.

For context, Austin Nichols turned 21 before the movie was released in stores.
