Tribeca to Debut Documentary About the Kid Who Beat TETRIS, BLUE SCUTI: GAME CRASHER

In January 2024, the news outlet TopMob showcased an incredible milestone in gaming. A prodigious 13-year-old named Willis Gibson, known online as Blue Scuti, managed to “conquer” what was previously thought impossible – Tetris. Most players understand that Tetris isn’t a game you typically win but rather play until you lose. By employing swift controller techniques, creating probability models, demonstrating immense skill, and relying on some luck, Gibson reached a glitch known as the “killscreen” at level 157 of Tetris. This killscreen was originally intended to be insignificant since players weren’t supposed to progress that far. As a result, Gibson became the first individual to reach the Tetris killscreen. A documentary about this extraordinary individual and his Tetris journey, titled “Blue Scuti: Game Crasher,” will premiere at this year’s Tribeca Festival.

The documentary titled “Blue Scuti: Game Crasher” delves into the life of Gibson following his sudden fame as the first person ever to conquer Tetris. Here’s Tribeca’s description for this Tetris documentary: “At 13, Willis Gibson’s life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes the world’s first to beat Tetris. This poignant tale unfolds as it explores themes of grief, community strength, and the rise of a surprising internet icon. However, it’s his victory over Tetris that truly sets this event apart.” Chris Moukarbel directs this film, produced by Legendary Pictures. Although he set numerous world records in the game, they pale in comparison to his historic win against Tetris.

The documentary titled “Blue Scuti: Game Crasher” is set to debut on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, as part of the Tribeca Festival. It will have two additional screenings during the festival as well. Tickets for the entire festival and “Blue Scuti” become available starting April 29. We’re eagerly anticipating this film that tells the story of the legendary figure who mastered the game “Tetris”.
