As a lifestyle connoisseur looking back, I must share some disappointing news about the captivating dark comedy series that had become a favorite in my viewing rotation – “Based on a True Story,” starring the exceptionally talented Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina. Unfortunately, our beloved streaming platform Peacock has decided not to renew the show for a third season after its successful second season premiered back in November 2024.
This unique blend of true crime investigation and comedic elements managed to strike a chord with audiences, receiving positive accolades along the way. However, it seems that we’ve reached the end of our journey with this remarkable series.
In “Based on a True Story,” the characters portrayed by Cuoco and Messina were a financially strapped couple who started a real-crime podcast to investigate if their plumber might be a serial killer behind closed doors. The series featured performances from Tom Bateman, Liana Liberato, and Priscilla Quintana alongside them. Craig Rosenberg was the creator, while Annie Weisman took charge of writing and production in season 2. Notably, both Cuoco and Messina served as executive producers, in addition to their acting roles.
The second installment of the series delved deeper into the adventurous and progressively risky probe by the couple into real-life crimes, combining tension with laughter. Although it received positive feedback and had a devoted audience, unfortunately, the program won’t be renewed on the streaming service, signifying its conclusion.
Although “Based on a True Story” is coming to an end, Peacock continues to provide engaging shows such as “Long Bright River” and the upcoming season 2 of “Poker Face”. The platform remains dedicated to delivering new content, even though “Based on a True Story” has concluded its brief run.
