34-year-old ex-contestant Danny Dearden tragically passed away on April 15th. His manager, Denise Beighton, shared the sad news through an Instagram post, writing “Devastated to learn you’ve left us. I can’t find the words, may you find peace, dear boy.
In 2014, the singer-songwriter made an appearance on a popular talent competition show. According to reports, he advanced as far as the Judges’ House round and received guidance from Mel B, a former member of the Spice Girls, during their time in Cancún, Mexico.
In the audition round, he performed Brownstone’s “If You Love Me,” leaving the X Factor judges in awe. Nevertheless, he didn’t advance to the live performances as he was surpassed by contestants Jake Quickenden and Jack Walton.
Despite this, Dearden has thrived in his solo music career, amassing over 15 million streams on Spotify and securing a deal with Sentric Music in 2021. Notably, the singer achieved significant success as a featured artist on Michael Calfan’s hit track “Could Be You.
The tune became famous when it was featured in the popular reality series Love Island and aired on BBC Radio 1’s Party Anthems with Scott Mills. Apart from his music career, Deardan was dedicated to anti-bullying campaigns and frequently delivered motivational speeches at schools about avoiding cyberbullying.
In an interview back in 2018, the singer-songwriter talked about the popularity of his songs. “Wow, it’s incredible to think about that many streams. We’re close to reaching a quarter of a million, and we haven’t even kicked off our planned promotions yet,” he explained, according to The Mirror.
The cause of his passing remains a mystery, but prior to his death, he had hinted at poor health conditions through his social media updates. Last year, it was disclosed by Dearden that he hadn’t been in the best of health for quite some time, as reported by the mentioned news outlet.
