Kevin Bacon Reveals How a Real Dead Body Interrupted Wild Things Shoot: ‘It Was Floating By’

In an unexpected twist during the filming of Wild Things back in 1998, I found myself stunned as if struck by lightning – a typical day on set turned into a spine-chilling true-crime scene. Recently, the charismatic Kevin Bacon opened up about this eerie experience, revealing that we, the cast and crew, stumbled upon a chilling sight: a floating corpse in the swamp.

In a recent Variety video segment, the actor tried to recall his most famous movies by reciting their memorable lines. Despite forgetting his dialogue from Wild Things, he reminisced about the film and shared a short story about its production. He explained that while filming a scene near a river, plagued by mosquitoes, a team member discovered a floating object, which turned out to be a deceased individual.

In the river, a raft had been placed to create light, when all of a sudden, a message came over the walkie-talkie: “I think I’ve just spotted a drifting corpse.” Bacon commented that it was reminiscent of the film’s atmosphere.

1998 saw the director of the movie discussing the event during its premiere. He explained to Entertainment Weekly that they contacted the police, who managed to prevent the corpse from entering their camera frame.

In addition to Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Theresa Russell, Robert Wagner, and Bill Murray, “Wild Things” featured.
