Although Will Smith’s latest album, “Based on a True Story,” marked his return to music after two decades, it didn’t create much commercial success. Even with prominent artists like Big Sean, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Jaden Smith featured on the album, it didn’t manage to enter the Billboard 200 charts.
In its initial week in the UK, Smith’s latest album sold a mere 268 copies, with only 36 digital downloads, as reported by The Sun. This marks a surprising first for Smith, who has previously seen his solo albums such as Big Willie Style and Lost and Found chart successfully in the U.S.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must confess that I haven’t yet had the pleasure of listening to the latest masterpiece from the illustrious Will, brother of the legendary Chris Rock. However, when asked about it by TMZ Hip Hop, I couldn’t help but voice my initial impressions. To put it mildly, I find myself quite critical of this album, labeling it as less than stellar. In fact, I went so far as to call it a “shaky” album. Furthermore, I found it intriguing that Will chose to incorporate the infamous 2022 Oscars slap into his new work. While I respect his artistic freedom, I can’t help but wonder if this was the best decision for the cohesion and impact of the album.
Tony Rock suggests that if Will Smith continues to reference ‘The Slap’ in his music promotions, it may indicate that he doesn’t have many new ideas or offerings. According to a report, this was Tony’s perspective on Will having outdated material. Additionally, Tony expressed his dismay by stating, “I’ve tried to move past the incident, but I can’t help but be taken aback that The Fresh Prince would rekindle the dispute by peddling rhymes laced with nonsense.
The album by Smith consists of fourteen tracks, featuring songs such as “Beautiful Scars” with Big Sean, “Work of Art” with Jaden Smith, and “Hard Times,” for which he recently promoted on Instagram.
Despite the relatively poor sales of his latest album, Will Smith has unveiled plans for a headlining tour across the UK and Europe – marking his first solo concert series. This tour promises a mix of fresh tunes as well as popular tracks such as “Miami” and “Summertime.” Yet, fans have pointed out that the venues selected are surprisingly intimate, holding fewer than 5,000 people, and significant cities like Birmingham and Glasgow are not included on the itinerary.
