Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa’s Home Was Rodent-Infested Before Their Tragic Deaths; Know What It Means for Investigation

Recent reports about the passing of artists Gene Hackman and his partner Betsy Arakawa have disclosed that their home in New Mexico, where they both died, contained rodents and nests, as per CNN, quoting documents from the New Mexico Department of Public Health.

According to CNN’s report, during an environmental evaluation in March, rodent droppings were found in three detached garages, two small houses called casitas, and three sheds. Moreover, it was said that alive, dead rodents, and a nest made by rodents were spotted in three of the property’s garages.

On March 5, as stated in the report, a risk evaluation was carried out by health department staff from New Mexico. This evaluation was partially conducted to guarantee the safety of family members, investigators, and emergency personnel who had visited the Santa Fe Summit residence following the discovery of hantavirus.

For people not already aware, the unfortunate deaths of the couple were found in February. Reports indicated that Betsy’s demise was associated with Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, a condition triggered by hantaviruses, which can be contracted through rodent droppings and urine.

According to reports, Gene Hackman, the renowned Oscar-winning actor, sadly passed away a few days later as a result of complications from heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and high blood pressure.

The news source states that Erin Phipps, a vet for public health in New Mexico, indicated that the risk level at the couple’s primary dwelling wasn’t significant. Furthermore, there were no indications of rodent presence or contamination within their home, which was discovered to be clean.

Moreover, the investigation uncovered evidence of rodent infestation in eight additional structures on the premises. Furthermore, rodents were detected in two automobiles, and trap systems were set up in other areas of the property for pest management.
