Pedro Pascal Admits Turning into Reed Richards For MCU’s Fantastic Four Was ‘Intimidating’ And Reveals Why

Pedro Pascal is taking on a new leading part; he’ll be playing Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” This means that Pascal will be embodying yet another demanding character.

Despite having experience in big-budget films, Pascal found the role particularly challenging due to a feeling of immense responsibility that was overwhelming. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, The Last of Us actor confessed he felt “very intimidating” when discussing his experience playing the de facto leader of the Fantastic Four.

The movie, helmed by Matt Shakman from WandaVision, is scheduled for release on July 25, 2025. This new take on Marvel’s Fantastic Four revamps the original series by transporting the characters to a ’60s-era alternate universe. Vanessa Kirby takes on the role of Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn portrays Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach becomes The Thing, and Pascal is cast as Mister Fantastic in this film.

In simple terms, Pascal described joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as one of the most challenging professional experiences he has encountered in his career. He elaborated that while each of his previous significant roles – like those in Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, Narcos, and The Mandalorian – had their own degree of pressure, the responsibility attached to this MCU project felt particularly immense.

He expressed that he leaned on those close to him for support during challenging experiences. Transitioning from Game of Thrones to Narcos on Netflix, then Star Wars and finally video games with The Last of Us, each step filled him with awe as he felt that the next project would be even more daunting than the last one.

He acknowledged the role his team members played in keeping him humble. “They can be intimidating, as there’s a strong desire to please everyone – particularly when the project is well-known and has specific anticipations associated with it. One aims for these expectations to be fulfilled,” Pascal added.

For Pascal, finding a harmony between meeting the audience’s expectations and remaining genuine to himself as an actor is crucial. “Additionally,” he mentioned, “it’s important to remain authentic to oneself so that it can be the most engaging and enjoyable for those who seek entertainment through a story and join us on this journey into this world.

Additionally joining the exceptional cast is John Malkovich, Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, Ralph Ineson, and Paul Walter Hauser for an innovative and daring adaptation of a cherished franchise. This reimagining will bring one of Marvel’s iconic groups into the current phase of the Marvel Universe.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters on July 25, 2025.
