Aimee Lou Wood criticizes SNL’s portrayal of ‘The White Lotus‘ Season 3, labeling it as “unkind and lacking humor.” After facing criticism for their insensitive take on the actress, NBC’s Saturday Night Live has since issued an apology.
On April 12th, SNL showcased a pre-recorded skit named “White POTUS.” This skit combined elements of HBO’s The White Lotus and political satire, setting the cast in various public figures enjoying a holiday at an imaginary resort. One character from The White Lotus, Chelsea, was portrayed by comedian Sarah Sherman, who sported unusually large teeth.
31-year-old Wood voiced her disapproval of the satire through a sequence of Instagram posts. She expressed her dissatisfaction over how her character was portrayed. She stated that although she usually appreciates the series, this particular episode appeared cruel and humorless to her.
However, being truthful, I found the Saturday Night Live sketch rather harsh and humorless. It’s unfortunate because I enjoyed it immensely a few weeks back.
Although acknowledging the show’s comedic roots in satire, she felt that the sketch might have been handled with more depth and intelligence, rather than relying solely on a straightforward and insensitive visual gag.
Absolutely, they can poke fun, that’s the charm of the series, but couldn’t they find a more sophisticated, subtly nuanced approach instead of resorting to obvious jokes?” she mused, further emphasizing, “And please, for heavens sake, let’s get the accent correct. I admire authenticity, even if it means being critical.
Previously, Wood opened up about the critique of her appearance, particularly her teeth, in public spaces. In earlier conversations, the British actress expressed doubts about her ability to secure roles on American television due to not fitting traditional standards of beauty. However, she later received positive feedback from fans, notably younger ones, who found inspiration in her.
In the drawing, Sherman wears a set of thick false teeth, following numerous discussions about her teeth that Wood has found exhausting. “On the bright side, it seems everyone agrees with me now, so I’m relieved I voiced my thoughts instead of keeping quiet,” she said in another Instagram Story.
In simpler terms, after an incident on Saturday Night Live, NBC (the network) expressed their apologies to Aimee Lou Wood. She acknowledged receiving the apology and added some humor to the situation, ending the conversation with a witty Instagram post that emphasized her unique smile using a fun filter.
