The final episode of Season 3 for The Yellowjackets sparked excitement among viewers due to surprising disclosures and unanswered queries. Key figures like “Pit Girl” and “Antler Queen” were finally revealed, along with unexpected deceptions, and a possible glimmer of hope for salvation was suggested. Co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson discuss the emotional climaxes and offer hints about what might happen next.
As we approach this week’s episode titled “Full Circle,” Lyle and Nickerson shared insights with Deadline about how they structured the finale to create a sense of spiritual harmony. Under Nickerson’s direction, the episode connects back to the series’ 2021 pilot, unveiling Mari as the character known as “Pit Girl” and Young Shauna as the “Antler Queen.
Reflecting on this journey, Nickerson found it thrilling yet nerve-wracking to complete the loop: “The performance isn’t concluded, but returning to where we began and embarking on a fresh route is both enjoyable and demanding,” he clarified.
In the 1990s, internal conflicts within the stranded team escalated to a point where they fixed a deadly hunt, which tragically took a turn for the worse when Teen Shauna intervened, causing Mari’s death and a gruesome feast. On the other hand, in the current timeline, Misty discovered that it was Shauna’s daughter, Callie, who murdered Adult Lottie, forcing Jeff and Callie to escape while Shauna grappled with an intense personal crisis.
Lyle observed that Callie’s behaviors prompt significant queries: “To what extent does she resemble her mom? Is it a battle between nature and nurture? We find it intriguing to delve into how Callie is forging her unique identity.
Regarding Shauna, the finale signifies a significant change. Throughout the season, Shauna struggled to live up to being a “good wife and mother,” but in the end, she acknowledges her true identity. Lyle characterized this moment as a blend of sorrow and freedom: “She’s mourning, but also understanding who she is. It’s a release.
The episode concludes as Teen Natalie successfully contacts home, giving a ray of hope for a possible rescue and providing a sneak peek into the polluted media world that awaits them upon their return to civilization. However, Nickerson cautioned that their arrival isn’t imminent: “We believe there’s more to their tale once they come back, but we’re unsure when we’ll be able to reach that point.
As Yellowjackets concludes one phase and hints at what’s coming up next, Lyle and Nickerson assure viewers that the survivors’ adventure is far from finished. With Shauna’s impending consequences, Callie’s unclear destiny, and a lengthy rescue mission on the horizon, the thrilling journey persists – and fans are buckled up for wherever it takes them next.
