How Did the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra Meet in DOCTOR WHO?

By the show’s standards, Belinda’s backstory is relatively straightforward. She is a dedicated nurse who finds herself taken hostage by cumbersome robots from her namesake planet, due to an old boyfriend. The Doctor attempts to rescue Belinda and free the planet from her ex-boyfriend, who has transformed into a colossal AI machine. After their encounter, Belinda becomes a reluctant companion, as the Doctor is unable to return her home for some unexplained reason. In essence, this is how Belinda Chandra meets the Doctor in the premiere of Doctor Who’s second season.

At the outset of the episode, we find Belinda attending to patients at a bustling hospital. Amidst this, the Doctor stirs up trouble throughout the facility. At one point, someone informs Belinda that a doctor is searching for her, to which she playfully replies that there’s usually one looking for her. Later in the evening, Belindachandra’s robots ransack her peaceful residence and capture her. As they soar off into space in an old-fashioned spaceship, the Doctor suddenly appears, hurtling towards them with a loud call of Belinda’s name.

At long last, the duo cross paths on Belindachandra. For the past six months, the Doctor had been discreetly residing there, functioning as the planet’s historian by appointment, all in anticipation of her arrival. Upon her unexpected arrival, he can be found in the throne room, evidently perplexed by her sudden royal wedding. After all, who would willingly marry an AI bot and transform into a mechanical entity?

Initially, they engage in a coded exchange, where every ninth word serves as the foundation for their dialogue, to prevent any ensuing disorder. Later on, Fifteen makes himself known to Belinda, revealing his unique dual-heart condition through an X-ray image. The Doctor had been informed about Belinda Chandra by someone who emphasized her significance, prompting him to intervene and rescue her.

We haven’t identified who “he” is just yet, but we will uncover his identity during this current season. The pair alternate between Belinda being hesitant about him and following his instructions, demonstrating her resourcefulness in this perilous scenario. Thus, that summarizes how the Doctor and Belinda Chandra come to know each other.

After their thrilling journey, she confronts the Doctor about the numerous lives lost, illegally taking her genetic material to determine a familial link to Mundy Flynn, and attempting to mold her into his own adventure. She yearns for home, but they can’t go back to May 24, 2025 due to some unexplained circumstances. We are now prepared to enjoy the fun times with Belinda Chandra and the Doctor.
