Michael De Luca, as co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group, has expressed strong faith in the upcoming Superman film directed by James Gunn.
In an enthusiastic manner, the executive praised Gunn’s latest Man of Steel film, even going as far as to label it a “five-star” production, along with using terms like “epic” and “emotionally stirring.

Gunn rebooting Superman
According to Deadline’s interview, it was confirmed that James Gunn joined the Superman project before he was jointly appointed as the head of the DC Universe alongside Peter Safran.
Yes, we hired James in secret to start his Superman script before they took the job.
De Luca is a big comic fan
It’s been mentioned that De Luca, in reality, shares our love for comic books. He is responsible for creating the films “Blade” and “Ghost Rider”. Furthermore, he is an avid supporter of Superman as well.
I’m smitten with the movie version of Superman. I believe that James Gunn has truly outdone himself. It’s packed full of his signature charm and wit, and the action is nothing short of awe-inspiring. This Superman feels like the one from my childhood, so it often brings tears to my eyes when I watch it. I find it to be an extraordinary spectacle, both visually stunning and emotionally resonant. The acting is top-notch. To me, it’s a five-star film that I can’t wait for everyone else to experience. Needless to say, we’re quite thrilled about this Superman movie!

Love letter to the character
When asked about the similarity between Gunn’s interpretation and the Richard Donner films featuring Christopher Reeve, De Luca affirmed that they share a close resemblance, yet there’s something extra to it.
In essence, I’d describe it as capturing the spirit of classic Superman, blended with a touch of Guardians of the Galaxy-style adventure. It’s a grand, epic sci-fi journey that beautifully honors the timeless appeal of the Man of Steel. The author has drawn inspiration from works like All-Star Superman, weaving those elements seamlessly into the narrative. Essentially, it’s a heartfelt tribute to what has kept Superman relevant for nearly a century.
