Colin Farrell’s Father Eamon Passes Away at 83; All About Former Rovers Player Amid His Demise

I can hardly contain my grief as I pen these words, for my beloved hero, Colin Farrell’s father, Eamon Farrell, has left us all on April 9th after a prolonged battle with illness. This extraordinary man, who once graced the soccer field with his prowess, was 83 years old. The somber announcement of his peaceful departure, following a long struggle with his affliction, was made amidst the comforting presence of his cherished family and the dedicated staff at the Whitworth Ward, Beaumont Hospital.

1) He represented professional soccer for the Dublin sports team Shamrock Rovers. The team also announced the sad news on Instagram. As stated in their post, Eamon started playing for them back in 1960 at 18 years old, transferring from the well-known youth club Home Farm.

It’s known that Emon, who was then a schoolboy from Ireland representing his nation, began playing with his elder brother Tommy on the same team. The duo was part of the squad that won the FAI Cup final against Shelbourne in 1962, attracting an impressive crowd of 32,000 spectators.

The soccer team shared a monochrome photo of a youthful Eamon striking a pose on the field. The caption included the phrase “May he rest in peace,” written in Irish: “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Apart from his son Colin, he is also survived by his other children: daughters Catherine and Claudine, as well as another son named Eamon. His wife, the late soccer player’s partner Eileen, who is Colin’s mother, has also outlived him at the age of 83.

At the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, the actor from The Penguin show unexpectedly acknowledged his family while receiving his award. During his acceptance speech, he expressed his affection by saying, “Eamon, I adore you. Catherine, I adore you. My mom, Rita, my dad, Eamon.

The actor spoke about two particularly important individuals in his life, his sons James and Henry, who have significantly enriched his existence. Due to their presence, he has experienced a level of happiness that he never imagined he could achieve.
