‘Adolescence’ Director Philip Barantini to Adapt Paulo Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’

Despite already having a strong acting and directing career prior to ‘Adolescence’, the show catapulted Philip Barantini to stardom, and it’s wonderful to see him thriving in his current success.

It appears that he will be directing Enola Holmes 3 shortly, but according to recent news, he’s also considering a significant and presumably difficult new assignment.

Currently, plans are underway to adapt the globally acclaimed novel “The Alchemist,” written by Paulo Coelho, and it appears that Barantini has been chosen to direct this project.

At present, details about the project are still scarce. However, according to recent updates, Legendary Studios appears to be developing a movie, with plans for filming to begin in 2026. This is intriguing given that Barantini has been linked to Enola Holmes 3.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Palmstar are involved in the project development too. In this case, TriStar is responsible for global distribution. At present, Jack Thorne, who has worked on ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ and ‘His Dark Materials’, is attached to pen the adaptation.

Originally released in 1988, Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist” achieved massive global success. Inspired by an age-old tale about a man who dreams of discovering a hidden fortune within a city, this novel has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide. Additionally, it ranks among the most translated books ever published.

The project is currently being worked on at an initial stage, which means we’ll definitely have new information to share over the coming weeks and months ahead.
