YELLOWJACKETS Reveals the Identity of the Pit Girl

The long-awaited finale of Yellowjackets season three has arrived, and what a rollercoaster ride it was! Both timelines were brimming with action due to some unexpected turns. In the current timeline, Tai is devastated by Van’s loss and justifiably upset with Shauna for her role in this unfortunate event. Meanwhile, in the past, it’s time for another offering to It, and one unlucky girl pays the ultimate price. However, this hunt in Yellowjackets is unique because it finally discloses the identity of the Pit Girl from the very first scene of the show.

Mari Is the Pit Girl in Yellowjackets

Indeed, it’s accurate. Most viewers of the series were convinced that the mysterious Pit Girl was Mari, primarily because of her long, dark hair. However, there was a slim possibility it could have been Gen or Hannah, the researcher who now resides among them. In this particular episode, the girls felt it was appropriate to make another offering to IT. They used the old method of drawing cards. The unfortunate soul who drew the Queen of Hearts would face death. As you are aware, Van has been manipulating the card system to ensure both she and Tai survive. By shuffling the cards skillfully, they ensured that Hannah would be chosen.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but appreciate the intricate dynamics unfolding here. You see, none of them have a real grasp on Shauna, and they’re determined not to eliminate a teammate unnecessarily. Yet, Shauna seems to be one step ahead, sensing their strategy. In an unexpected move, she shifts her position, standing beside Mari, her arch-rival, instead of the usual spot. This tactical maneuver forces Mari’s hand, leading her to pick a card and flee into the woods.

Mari, ever resourceful, gives it her all. In a desperate bid to evade capture, she peels off layers of clothing, revealing the pristine white gown hidden beneath, aiming to blend seamlessly with the snow-covered landscape. She leaves her vibrant suit behind as a clever decoy, hoping to mislead her pursuers. Quite the thrilling game, isn’t it?

Quite a few events unfold, such as Gen deceiving Tai, Shauna, and Van to create an opportunity for Mari. Shauna and Melissa even have a disagreement, while Natalie swaps clothing items to escape with the now-functional emergency transmitter, using it to summon assistance.

Shauna Wears Mari’s Hair on Her Antler Queen Outfit

Just as time ran out on the hunt, Mari rushed headlong into a pit filled with spikes, effectively ending her life. The girls then approached her lifeless body and Shauna instructed them to pull her from the pit. They hung her up and cut off pieces of her hair for Shauna to use on her new costume since she was now the Antler Queen. Indeed, the final episode of Yellowjackets provided answers to two of its most intriguing questions.

If I can be honest with you, both pieces of news left me feeling surprisingly unimpressive. Mari’s selection as the one to descend into the pit this season seemed far too predictable, given her earlier struggle. Furthermore, the portrayal in this episode deviated significantly from what truly occurred, which is certainly not a positive development. As for Shauna being crowned Antler Queen, I believe another character would have been more fitting. Someone like Lottie, who wholeheartedly embraced It and had ties to some other…source, would have brought the ethereal energy necessary for that role.

Shauna is merely a rude and unyielding tormentor who employs the “rules of the Wilderness” to oppress her adversaries. Regrettably, she lacks charm or intrigue in doing so. As for Yellowjackets, although there’s no official confirmation for season four just yet, it seems likely that it will be renewed soon. Unfortunately, Mari won’t have the chance to return home.
