Keri Hilson Wonders If Beyoncé Knows Truth About 16-Year-Old Diss Track Ft Lil Wayne: ‘I Was Forced to…’

20 years ago, R&B artist Keri Hilson addressed the criticism she faced due to rumors of a past disagreement with Beyoncé. This alleged conflict led to an early release of Hilson’s remix of Turnin’ Me On, featuring Lil Wayne, online.

Hilson explained to People her diss lyrics, which some perceived as aimed at Beyoncé, were not actually her own and were sung under duress. She clarified the contentious verse that sparked rumors of a feud between the two musicians.

Hilson explained to People that “I didn’t come up with those lyrics; I was compelled to perform them.” Fans were upset when a remix, produced by Polow da Don and Danja, surfaced online. The verse included a pointed reference to Beyoncé’s hit song Irreplaceable, causing instant controversy and backlash.

Hillson disclosed that the controversial verse, which stirred up fan debates between the singers, had been penned before she even stepped foot in the studio to record. Hillson explained that one of her creative team members was determined to generate hype, disregarding potential backlash. She admitted that she felt compelled to record the verse, fearing it could jeopardize her career if she didn’t.

She added, “I never wanted to record it. I definitely never wanted it to come out.”

Hilson elaborated that she had never intended to record the song due to her admiration for the Grammy-winning artist over a long period. To this day, she remains unsure if Beyoncé harbors any ill feelings towards her. She expressed curiosity, “I’ve often pondered what she may have been informed about that situation, whether she was given the truth.

It appears that the false rumors about Hilson’s beef affected her career negatively, despite subsequent successful songs like “Knock You Down” and “Pretty Girl Rock,” as reported by certain fans.

Keri Hilson is preparing for the release of her brand-new studio album, containing nine fresh songs, entitled “We Need to Chat”, set to drop on April 18, 2025.
