MURDERBOT Trailer Gives Us Alexander Skarsgård as a Lovable Killer Robot

Apple TV+ introduces another visually appealing sci-fi series, featuring an illustrious ensemble cast, titled Murderbot. This forthcoming futuristic blend of thriller and comedy is adapted from the novel series The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. The main character, a robotic assassin, is played by Alexander Skarsgård, previously seen in True Blood. The creators behind this production are Chris and Paul Weitz, who have garnered Academy Award nominations for their work on About a Boy and Rogue One. And here’s the official synopsis for Murderbot from Apple TV+:

Murderbot” – A Sci-Fi Thriller/Comedy starring Skarsgård, revolves around an autonomous security unit grappling with human feelings while protecting its clients despite its inclination towards solitude. Amidst wanting to avoid any entanglements and enjoy futuristic soap operas, this robot is compelled to conceal its self-determination and execute a perilous mission.

It’s uncertain who initially gave the name “murderbot” to killer robots, but we vividly remember it being used for James Spader as Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, there are indeed several robots from pop culture that could be called murderbots well before this movie was released. The series, comprising seven novels in total, started in 2017 with the latest book published in 2023. As for the Apple TV+ series, it’s unknown how many books of the first season they intend to adapt.

In the cast for the show titled “Murderbot” with Alexander Skarsgård is an impressive lineup of familiar faces. These include Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski. This ten-episode series will debut simultaneously on Apple TV+, with the first two episodes coming out on May 16, 2025. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly every Friday until July 11.
