David Corenswet says Krypto is “The Worst Dog in the World With Superpowers”

David Corenswet, the actor portraying Clark Kent/Superman, has unveiled some intriguing insights regarding his character’s beloved canine, Krypto. It’s safe to say that this interpretation of Krypto deviates from the typical family pet.

Corenswet explained that in the movie, Krypto’s appearance is “sort of a foster situation.”

The man who’s known as Superman is looking after a canine… however, Krypto, being the most mischievous dog in existence with superpowers, consistently wreaks havoc at the Fortress and goes after wild animals,” he remarked.

Although Krypto appears adorable, it seems that his powers are more trouble than they’re worth. He’s tearing apart my Fortress of Solitude left and right and even chasing wild animals! It looks like I have quite the handful with Superman duties these days!

The concept for this particular Krypto character was inspired by director James Gunn’s real-life pet dog, Ozu. Interestingly enough, Gunn has mentioned that Ozu was saved from a challenging hoarding situation. At first, Ozu seemed unsure of how to act like a typical dog, which made Gunn ponder: “What if a character in my story had similar difficulties and needed to learn how to be a hero?

How difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” he posted on social media.

The idea sparked within Gunn to incorporate Krypto into the Superman tale, and as a result, the dog played a significant role in it.

Enthusiasts can’t wait to catch Krypto in action, and the film boasts Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with Corey Swet’s fresh interpretation of Superman.

On July 11, 2025, Superman is set to soar into cinemas, and it seems that Krypto could be stealing the limelight (possibly causing a bit of damage in the process).
