During an interview with The Times of London in April 2025, Elton John expressed that he is unable to watch TV or read due to his vision loss. He further mentioned that he misses seeing his sons play rugby and soccer, and this period has been particularly challenging for him as he’s accustomed to enjoying these moments.

In late 2024, his series of public statements revealed his vision issues to his fans. Despite maintaining an optimistic outlook, the musician acknowledged that this health problem has had a substantial impact on his daily activities.

Initially, Elton expressed gratitude towards his medical team and conveyed optimism regarding his healing process. Yet, within mere months, his recovery appeared to advance at a pace slower than anticipated.

During an interview with ABC News in November 2024, Elton John disclosed additional information regarding the reason behind his vision impairment. He explained that he had gone blind in his right eye in July, following a bout with an infection he contracted while vacationing in the French Riviera.

During the interview, he shared that it had been four months since he last saw anything clearly, and his left eye wasn’t in great shape either. Although he held out hope for improvement, he felt stagnated by the situation. He added that he was unable to read or watch anything at the moment, and all his efforts were geared towards improving his condition over time.

As the composer of that captivating show, I was unable to witness its enchanting display myself, as my current health predicament prevents me from doing so. I’ve been grappling with some personal health challenges lately, and unfortunately, I’ve also lost my eyesight.

In spite of it all, he admitted that he had found pleasure in the event. Additionally, Elton expressed gratitude towards his husband, David Furnish, whom he referred to as his pillar of strength during difficult times.
