Jesse Watters, a host on Fox News, is facing laughter online after mistakenly claiming that Val Kilmer starred in the 1987 film The Lost Boys during a tribute to the late actor during a live segment. William Oliver Stone, a filmmaker, was among those on the panel with Watters.
While conversing with filmmaker Oliver Stone about Kilmer’s heritage, Watters expressed his fondness for the 1987 vampire cult favorite. This film, now a cult classic, gained its status 21 years following its initial release.
Furthermore, the film’s initial lineup features actors like Corey Feldman, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Edward Herrmann, Corey Haim, Barnard Hughes, Jason Patric, among others.
On-air, Watters expressed, “Indeed, Kilmer was an exceptional actor. The Lost Boys was among my cherished movies from my childhood years. May peace be with his loved ones.
As a lifestyle expert, I couldn’t help but notice the buzz surrounding a recent mix-up. It didn’t take long for viewers to pick up on the error and flock to Kilmer’s filmography to verify that he had never graced the screen in that particular movie. The theories circulating on social media ranged from Watters confusing the Top Gun star with Sutherland, to sheer astonishment over such an oversight.
The user stated they understood Kilmer wasn’t in “The Lost Boys”, then questioned if there might be a misunderstanding, as they wondered whether Oliver Stone directed “The Lost Boys” and if that was the intention of their statement. However, it was clear that wasn’t the case. Instead, it seems Jesse mistakenly associated Kilmer with Sutherland.
One observer noted that it’s particularly thoughtless to make such a mistake when interacting with a renowned director like Stone.
One commenter pointed out that such an error, given the context of communicating with a legendary filmmaker like Stone, was especially disrespectful.)
People pointed out that statements like these could potentially deceive listeners, especially when talking about honoring a performer’s heritage.
