The idea of ‘Sea of Thieves in space’, titled ‘Wildgate’, is gaining traction, as demonstrated by its success during Steam Next Fest: It ranked second among the most-played demos and surpassed half a million Steam Wishlists. With the game set to launch on July 22, 2025, Moonshot Games and Dreamhaven have revealed details about the content players can expect at launch as well as their plans for long-term support of the game.
Upon its release, Wildgate offers expanded advancement routes such as loot crates (containers found during gameplay that contain a permanent cosmetic item for you and your team), an honor system (ranking system), objectives tied to streaks and statistics (rewards for achieving significant milestones), and player titles along with badges. There will also be more rare cosmetics to uncover. Enhancements have been implemented in matchmaking, spectator mode, and numerous other aspects – many of these changes being inspired by the input collected from the beta and demo phase by the community.
As an eager player, I’m excited to share that following the game’s launch, the dedicated developers will release Reach Anomalies bi-weekly. These updates will introduce something fresh, such as a new point of interest, artifact type, hardpoint type, or hazard to keep our gaming experience vibrant and engaging.
Approximately three seasonal updates each year will bring significant content drops, including new characters, ships, gear, game mechanics, or playable areas. These major updates are like exciting surprises waiting to unfold! Additionally, there will be mid-season patches as necessary, which serve to rectify balance issues, improve performance, and more.
What makes Moonshot particularly appealing is its disciplined approach to post-launch support, ensuring that potential players can look forward to a consistently evolving game world.
In the upcoming Season 1 (launching later this year), you can expect a brand-new Prospector, various novel equipment items, an Adventure Pass, recently discovered Reach Anomalies, and some trendy new cosmetics. Additionally, custom lobby functionality is planned for implementation in 2025.
It’s important to mention that unlike regular Battle Passes, Wildgate’s Adventure Passes don’t expire. This means players have the flexibility to complete the pass at their leisure without worrying about missing out on any rewards.
Content for Season 2 and 3 – as well as beyond – is already in the works as well.
Take a look at our advanced peek and conversation with Dustin Browder and Jason Chayes for additional insights about the forthcoming game.
