In contrast, as Disney’s Snow White slips into an eternal sleep during its second weekend in theaters, the energetic action film “A Working Man,” directed by Jason Statham, David Ayer, and Sylvester Stallone, stirs moviegoers out of their seats.
Snow White vs A Working Man
Rachel Zegler continues to bomb
Just like its initial weekend at the box office fell short of predictions, the current second weekend for Snow White is also failing to meet expectations.
Before the weekend just passed, it was predicted that Snow White would earn over $15 million during its second weekend. However, the actual earnings are lower, approximately $14-$15 million, which equates to a potential 67% decrease. With production costs of around $400 million, this is a significant blow for Disney. A Disney producer’s son has also recently accused Rachel Zegler of causing the film’s failure. This won’t be a cause for celebration for Zegler this week. More information to follow.
A Working Man overperforming
Instead, fans turned out to see Jason Statham in action in A Working Man.
The movie is surpassing expectations, projected to earn around $15.6 million. It brings back Statham and David Ayer from their previous collaboration on “The Beekeeper”. Sylvester Stallone and Ayer also wrote the script for this film, which is based on Chuck Dixon’s novel, “Levon’s Trade”, a well-known comic book author who created Marvel’s “The Punisher”.
On its opening day this week, “A Working Man” raked in a total of $5.6 million, including Thursday previews, placing it at the top spot. Meanwhile, “Snow White” earned $3.7 million on Friday, ranking third, with both “The Chosen: Last Supper” and its $5 million earnings taking the first and second spots respectively.
Snow White bombing even hard
It’s now thought Snow White will bomb even harder than Disney’s Dumbo from back in 2019.
In its second weekend, the movie Dumbo raked in approximately $18.2 million. By the end of its run in the U.S., Dumbo had amassed a total of $114.7 million and a worldwide gross of $353.2 million. The earnings of Snow White are falling short compared to these figures, leading some to speculate that Disney will suffer a loss of around $200 million on Snow White.
As of Friday, Snow White has only grossed $100M worldwide, with $56.3M in the U.S.
Snow White box office
- Domestic (56.2%): $56,314,583
- International (43.8%): $43,907,066
- Worldwide: $100,221,649
A Working Man in line with The Beekeeper
If you’re a fan of Jason Statham’s action movies, then the film “A Working Man” seems to be cut from the same cloth as “The Beekeeper“. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the audience rating for “A Working Man” stands at 90%, and that of “Beekeeper” is a slightly higher 92%.
