The Disney film “Snow White,” featuring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, is performing dismally, even worse than initially projected, and may end up losing approximately $200 million.
Domestic box office lower
Initially, it was reported that the movie “Snow White” made $43 million domestically. However, the correct amount is actually $42.2 million, which is lower than the minimum expectations set at approximately $45 million.
International and Worldwide box office lower
Similarly, the global box office earnings also fell short of the reported figures. Contrary to the trades’ report of $87.3 million globally, the actual earnings were $86.1 million. Just like its domestic performance, the movie ‘Snow White’ has shown underperformance in foreign markets as well.
Budget higher than expected
It appears that we’re learning even more about the struggles of the film “Snow White.” Previously thought to be budgeted at $270 million, it has now been disclosed that the actual cost is a staggering $370 million. This sum includes a massive $100 million marketing campaign from Disney, which unfortunately did not engage audiences and may have put them to sleep.
Could result in $200M loss for Disney
Additionally, THR indicates that experts within the industry predict that the movie “Snow White” must generate at least $500 million in box office revenue to reach the “financial security threshold.
As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that the film “Snow White” might not reach the heights we all hoped for. THR suggests that due to lackluster ticket sales and a quiet buzz among viewers, it could earn just $300 million to $400 million worldwide. That’s a far cry from the coveted $500 million mark, which means Disney might be looking at a potential loss of around $200 million. Quite a blow for such a magical tale!
Falling behind Dumbo
It’s well-established that the opening weekend of ‘Snow White’ earned less than the $46 million debut of ‘Dumbo’. Eventually, ‘Dumbo’ garnered a domestic total of $114.7 million and a worldwide sum of $353 million. The early numbers for ‘Snow White’ on its first Monday (as shown below) are also lagging behind those of ‘Dumbo’.
Needs legs but doubtful
To ensure that the movie version of “Snow White” makes a profit or at least covers its costs, it needs to perform well at the cinema. However, given the unfavorable criticisms and the ongoing drama surrounding Rachel Zegler, such success appears less and less probable.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I must share my thoughts on Snow White’s latest review scores. Critics seem to be less impressed with it, as its Rotten Tomatoes score has dipped to 42%. However, the fans’ verdict is more positive, sitting at an encouraging 74%. The CinemaScore came in as a solid B+, but surprisingly, the IMDb rating stands at a modest 1.7.
Moviegoers well aware of the controversy
According to THR, data indicates that typical cinema-goers might be giving significantly less focus to political matters compared to what social media and news titles imply. However, I strongly dispute this notion as being untrue in my opinion.
It’s clear to me that the posts I share on social media have been seen by millions, with my Facebook being a significant contributor to this reach. A brief glance at Facebook reveals that many pages are leveraging the negative hype surrounding Disney, Zegler, and the movie “Snow White” for their own gain.
If you’re curious as to why there are numerous memes popping up on Facebook and platform X, it’s due to the fact that these platforms reward meme content more than links. They even compensate page owners according to the number of views. Consequently, although the film isn’t generating revenue for Disney, Zegler and the new Snow White have become a treasure trove of content for users on Facebook and platform X.
