A Minecraft Movie EXCLUSIVE: Jack Black Shares BTS of an ‘Awkward, Yin-Yang’ Action Sequence With Jason Momoa, Including a Free Fall

In the high-profile ensemble of “A Minecraft Movie,” Jack Black has been added, and he’s dished out some behind-the-scenes details about executing thrilling action sequences for the production.

In this eagerly awaited movie version of the cherished game, director Jared Hess enlisted Jon Valera, a well-known stunt coordinator and second-unit director. Interestingly, Valera and his crew had previously worked alongside Jason Momoa, who features in the film, but this was a new partnership for Black.

During an interview with TopMob, the star from School of Rock reminisced about shooting a pulse-pounding scene in which his character, Steve, together with Momoa’s and Sebastian Hansen’s, leaped off a cliff while wearing Elytra wingsuits. However, Black disclosed that Steve inadvertently left his wingsuit behind, resulting in an exhilarating plummet—without the safety of a parachute.

Referencing the memorable acrobatic scene, Jack Black, portraying King Kong, stated, “I was aiming for Garrett (Momoa), hoping to land on his back and I succeeded. This led me to ride him like a horse, but not long after, we found ourselves in an uncomfortable predicament.

In an exclusive conversation with TopMob, Black elaborated on the scene, stating that Steve and Garrett were holding onto each other suspended in mid-air. “We’re zooming along at such speed, resembling a yin and yang symbol, and by some miracle, it holds true. We’ve survived! We’ve got another day of flying ahead!

The movie “Minecraft” is a live-action version of the popular game, evoking the fond memories that continue to resonate with fans across the globe. In addition to Black, Momoa, and Sebastian Hansen portraying Henry, the film by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures also features Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, and Jennifer Coolidge in an undisclosed role.

The highly anticipated film is set to hit theaters on April 4, 2025.
