No Other Land Co-Director Hamdan Ballal Goes Missing After Getting Attacked by Group of Settlers: ‘They Beat Him…’

Hamdan Ballal, one of the directors for No Other Land, was brutally attacked by a mob of settlers, leaving him injured and subsequently missing. Yuval Abraham, his co-director, shared details about this violent incident on his social media platform. In his post, he disclosed that the group of settlers had violently assaulted Ballal, which led to the military taking him away after the attack. Since then, there has been no sign or news of Hamdan’s whereabouts.

Based on Associated Press reports, representatives from the Center for Jewish Non-Violence observed the director being assaulted, while settlers were reportedly throwing stones at his vehicle and damaging its tires.

Abraham’s X account posts stated: “A mob has brutally murdered Hamdan Ballal, a key collaborator on our film ‘No Other Land.’ He was severely beaten with injuries to his head and stomach, from which he was bleeding profusely. An ambulance was called but soldiers stormed it and took him away. No news of his whereabouts since.

Simultaneously, the witnesses disclosed that the filmmaker had been assaulted in his native village of Susya. Most of the assailants were masked adolescents wielding knives and sticks.

According to attorney Leah Zemel, three individuals from Palestine have been detained regarding the recent incidents of violence, and they’ve been transferred to a military facility for further investigation.

Additionally, the International Documentary Association has issued a call for Ballal’s swift release, urging that his family and community be kept informed about his status, whereabouts, and the reasons behind his detention.

Weeks following No Other Land’s win at the Oscars for Best Documentary, the director was targeted with an attack.
