Alfred Gough, well-known for his work, is also recognized as a co-creator of Smallville. Lately, he’s shared insights about an eagerly awaited animated continuation of Smallville. In a recent discussion, he explained the reasons behind the temporary pause in the series’ production.
According to Alfred Gough, who spoke on the Talk Ville podcast, it appears Warners is undergoing significant changes, and their decision to reboot Superman yet again unfortunately delays any progress we were hoping to make.
During the podcast conversation with Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling, who starred in the popular series Smallville, the co-creator mentioned that he had heard rumors about Warner Bros. Studios potentially reviving Buffy the Vampire Slayer for streaming platform Hulu.
Discussing another factor causing delays in Smallville, Gough mentioned the “shift in leadership” that took place at Warner Bros. In 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed as co-CEOs of DC Studios. For those unaware, this marks a fresh start for the DC Extended Universe and a production division dedicated to managing DC characters within Warner Bros.
In a chat with the Smallville cast, he attributed the halt or delay of any project from any production company or broadcast network to the shift in government administration.
Speaking about Smallville, this television show was developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. It spanned over 10 seasons and a total of 217 episodes, with each season offering its unique storyline. This series was broadcasted on The CW network. The narrative primarily revolved around the character of young Clark Kent, portrayed by Tom Welling, who struggled to manage his superpowers and maintain integrity in the town of Smallville.
Attending the upcoming movie, helmed by James Gunn, is set to ignite the launch of the fresh DC Studios. The film will feature David Corenswet portraying Clark Kent (aka Superman), Nicholas Hoult stepping into Lex Luthor’s shoes, and Rachel Brosnahan taking on the role of Lois Lane.
Superman will be out in theaters on July 11.
