Hideaki Itsuno, well-known for leading the development of Devil May Cry 2-5, Dragon’s Dogma and its sequel, as well as numerous other games since the mid-90s at Capcom, has announced he is currently developing a new AAA action game at his newly established studio, LightSpeed Japan.
LightSpeed Japan is a division of Tencent-owned PUBG Mobile developer, LightSpeed Studios, with Itsuno assuming the role of studio head. At the Game Developers Conference 2025 (reported by Gematsu), LightSpeed Studios unveiled their “original IP initiative,” which refers to their focus on creating more original games that can be played across multiple platforms, a strategy led by “a network of self-sustaining, independent studios from various regions.
LightSpeed Japan is among the subsidiary studios, and its inaugural venture is an unnamed action game spearheaded by Itsuno. While there’s no official trailer or specifics about the game, LightSpeed Studios hints that Itsuno is leveraging his past work on “Devil May Cry,” the Capcom Alpha series, Capcom VS. SNK, and numerous other legendary video games.
In his own words, Itsuno described the upcoming game like this: “We’re constructing an imaginative setting where traditional and modern cultures intertwine, enhanced by state-of-the-art technology. Our primary goal is to create gaming elements that present unique experiences for players—innovations so groundbreaking that they make players exclaim ‘I’ve never encountered anything like this in a game!’
As a fervent admirer, it appears this upcoming title is set to offer a distinctive experience, promising an exhilarating action-packed journey. With a substantial financial backing, it seems we can anticipate a richly diverse gaming landscape. Frankly, I’m thrilled that Itsuno is embarking on this new venture!
