As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the initial box office figures for “Snow White” have been released, revealing that the movie managed to earn an impressive $3.5 million during its Thursday previews. However, there’s a lingering question about how the recent drama involving Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot might affect audience turnout in theaters this weekend.

Is $3.5M a good number?

The website evaluates the Thursday previews for “Snow White” against several other films, implying that the movie could potentially be a success at the box office.

Judging by the theater ticket sales on Fandango and fan posts on social media, it appears that the movie Snow White might only make around $40-$45 million over the weekend.

I’d liken it to “The Marvels,” which started strong with a $46 million opening, only to seemingly disappear afterwards. However, it should be noted that “The Marvels” had an unusually high opening on Thursday with $6.6 million, thanks to dedicated MCU fans.

Better than Dumbo: So what?

Deadline indicates that Snow White has surpassed Dumbo in terms of performance, with a gross of $2.6 million on Thursday, while Dumbo’s total earnings amount to a relatively lower figure of $353 million globally.

Remember that Snow White had significant reshoots which are said to have driven its cost beyond the $250 million mark. On the other hand, Dumbo’s budget was approximately $170 million, but despite earning $353 million, it was not deemed a financial triumph.

As a die-hard movie fan, I’d say if Snow White manages to rake in $400M globally at the box office, it would still be considered a flop, much like how Captain America: Brave New World didn’t quite hit the mark.

According to the article, the box office earnings this weekend will largely hinge on if families with girls decide to attend.

The earnings from ticket sales for “Snow White” are projected to be between $45 million and $55 million during its debut weekend, a noticeable drop compared to initial estimates that were as high as $85 million when tickets initially went on sale.

Rotten Tomatoes not helping

It appears that the Rotten Tomatoes rating isn’t working in Disney’s favor. Out of 147 reviews, they currently have a “Rotten” score of just about 46%.

The Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t been displayed yet because you can only submit a review if you bought tickets through the Fandango app. Since not everyone may have done so, posting a rating or review right now wouldn’t be counted and would be a waste of time. It seems that this policy is being used to delay the release of the Audience Score as much as they can.
