In early 2024, Sia, the well-known singer, expanded her family to include three children. As per divorce papers, Sia and her former spouse, Dan Bernad, welcomed a new member named Somersault Wonder Bernad on March 27, 2024, marking their first child together.
According to PEOPLE, Sia initiated divorce proceedings against her husband Dan Bernad on March 18, 2025, marking the end of their two-year marriage due to irreconcilable differences. In her petition, she seeks sole legal and physical custody of their child Somersault, but is willing to allow Dan visitation rights. Additionally, she has asked the court not to provide spousal support to Dan Bernad.
Sia and Bernad generally preferred to keep their relationship private from public scrutiny. The duo exchanged vows in a small, private ceremony held in Italy during May 2023, with only six guests present. Regrettably, their marriage did not last long as Sia initiated divorce proceedings just under two years after the wedding.
Without making any official statements, the private vocalist has remained silent about both her divorce and the arrival of her third child. These developments were first brought to light via documentation connected to the divorce process.
Prior to welcoming Somersault, Sia had adopted two teenage boys in 2019 when they were nearly out of the foster care system, both being 18 years old at the time. In an interview with InStyle in 2020, she expressed her long-held dream, saying, “I have always wanted to be a mother.
In the past, she openly shared that she faced difficulties with infertility and opted for in vitro fertilization treatments while married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang. However, following their divorce, they were unable to utilize the resulting embryos.
After seeing the 2016 HBO documentary Foster, Sia found herself moved to adoption. It was one of the boys in the movie who particularly touched her heart, inspiring her eventual decision to adopt him.
Initially, when he inquired if another resident from the group home could share their living space, she consented, since they had two extra rooms available. It later transpired that these young men weren’t blood relatives but had formed a deep connection during their time in foster care.
Sia has expressed intentions to provide care for infants in the future, specifically for those born to mothers battling addiction. In a previous conversation with Vogue Australia, she disclosed this aspiration, mentioning that these babies might require foster care until their mothers have recuperated or a permanent home is found. She expressed her desire to nurture them during this period.
