For Batman and anime enthusiasts, there’s some exciting news! Kevin Conroy, the beloved voice actor who gave life to Batman in the iconic animated series and games like Arkham, will be making one final appearance. Remarkably, he’ll star in Netflix’s new Devil May Cry anime, despite passing away in 2022 at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer. The twist? His voiceover work was done years ago, and now we have the opportunity to hear it in this upcoming series.
In the new addition to the Devil May Cry series, Conroy assumes the role of VP Baines. If you take a look at the recently released teaser trailer by Netflix, you’ll notice his voice prominently featured at the beginning. The creator, Adi Shankar, has praised Conroy’s performance, stating that it was not AI-generated but rather a testament to Conroy’s raw talent. Shankar considers it a privilege to collaborate with him, and I can certainly understand why. To many of us, Conroy is nothing short of a legend.

The animated series based on the Devil May Cry video games by Capcom will debut on Netflix starting April 3, 2025. Dante, a demon hunter who is unaware of his crucial role in maintaining harmony between human and demon realms, is the main character. As dark forces attempt to breach the barriers between these dimensions, the story becomes increasingly intense. Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices Dante, shared that it was exciting to work with Conroy several years ago. These recording sessions took place before Conroy’s passing, as animation production requires considerable time.
In this instance, Conroy isn’t playing his first posthumous role for the first time; he was in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 last year, but it remains a unique experience nonetheless. Joining him in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, and Chris Coppola as Enzo. The animation is being handled by Studio Mir, a South Korean team known for productions like The Legend of Korra. Shankar is at the helm of this project, boasting a background with projects such as Dredd and Captain Laserhawk.
I’m looking forward to listening to Kevin Conroy once again, as this anime promises a lot of action. If you’ve played the games, you know it’s going to be thrilling. Save the date for April 3rd—Dante’s demon-slaying journey is about to begin, and Kevin Conroy will set the stage with his remarkable voice performance.
