In a heartwarming comeback, Lilo and Stitch grace our screens once more, tugging at your emotions in the live-action remake of the beloved animated film. The first trailer for this upcoming movie has been unveiled by Disney, showcasing young actress Maia Kealoha stepping into the lead role.
The story begins by showing Stitch, an alien being, fleeing his distant galaxy and arriving on Earth. Meanwhile, Lilo, a human girl, captures a falling star and makes a heartfelt wish for a new friend. As fate would have it, Stitch arrives and Lilo meets this peculiar creature. Despite its unconventional appearance, she decides to take it in as her own pet.
In a twist of events, Stitch (Chris Sanders) – a genetic experiment that didn’t turn out quite as planned – is completely unfamiliar with human ways. Lilo pledges to take care of him, but his behavior becomes increasingly impulsive. As someone queries, “Is that really a dog?”, Lilo confirms with a smile, prompting a cute “ruff” from Stitch.
Even as her older sister and others voice their concerns about the “dog’s” mischievous behavior, Lilo remains loyal to him. In the preview, we hear Stitch say, “Stitch bad.” To which Lilo replies, “Family isn’t always perfect, but that doesn’t make them bad.
1) The trailer successfully embodied the authentic Hawaiian feel of the initial film, and this cultural importance was consistently portrayed throughout the movie. It was Lilo’s steadfast faith in Ohana, a Hawaiian term for family, that ultimately touched Stitch’s small, extraterrestrial heart.
At the end of the preview, it appears that folks are chasing after Stitch with the intention of returning him to his original home. Judging by the scenes, this film seems to blend heartfelt emotions, thrilling action, and a dash of humor, particularly between the well-cared-for Lilo and the mischievous Stitch.
The ensemble additionally features Sydney Agudong portraying Nani, Billy Magnussen stepping into the role of Pleakley, Zach Galifianakis lending his voice to Jumba, Amy Hill voicing Tūtū, and Kaipo Dudoit as David, among others.
Lilo & Stitch will hit the theaters on May 23, 2025.
