Scarlett Johansson is once more grabbing attention, but not for her exceptional acting skills this time. The actress has bluntly decided to stay away from Instagram, defying Universal Pictures who have been urging her to participate in social media promotion for her upcoming movie ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth.’
According to Johansson, she received an email directly from Universal Pictures suggesting that she join Instagram simultaneously with the launch of “Jurassic World: Rebirth”.
She’s firm in her stance and prioritizes authenticity: “I face pressure to join social media, but I question if I can do so while staying true to myself. It didn’t seem possible,” she expressed. Johansson’s perspective? If she doesn’t resonate with social media, she won’t pretend for anyone, not even for a blockbuster movie.
The surprising part is, she’s not fretting over the movie’s success. She assured Variety with a conviction that’s hard to contradict that ‘the film will manage well on its own’. And there’s a strong possibility she could be correct. ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’, scheduled for release on July 2, 2025, is the upcoming installment in a series that’s been making billions since the initial Jurassic Park graced our screens back in 1993.
Under the direction of Gareth Edwards, who previously worked on Rogue One, this new film boasts a fresh ensemble cast that includes Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, and Johansson. The storyline revolves around a team undertaking a perilous assignment linked to dinosaur DNA, offering a contemporary take on the classic Jurassic Park theme.
Johansson has consistently taken on significant roles since 2010’s Iron Man 2, where she captivated audiences with her impressive stunts and charisma as Black Widow in the Marvel universe. However, she emphasizes the importance of authenticity: ‘Everything I present is grounded in truth – that’s what makes it genuine.’ Therefore, maintaining a low profile on Instagram aligns with this ethos. Moreover, Johansson has been protective about her personal life, such as her marriage to Colin Jost and their two children, which is unusual for a high-profile celebrity like herself.
It seems the studio thought adding her to Instagram would increase excitement, given her long-standing avoidance of social media. However, Johansson appears to be confident in the movie’s success on its own merits. With the Jurassic World series having a substantial fan base, the last installment, Dominion, grossing over a billion dollars globally in 2022, Edwards’ talent for action, and a cast already garnering attention, it seems she may not need to share a single selfie.
– Despite the fact that many stars would eagerly endorse such a project, this one remains audacious. It leaves me questioning Johansson’s motives – does a movie of this magnitude truly require additional star power on social media? Or is she merely demonstrating her superior position in the industry? Regardless, it’s her decision and she’s confidently making it. In her own words: “If I were someone who really enjoyed social media, then I could definitely join in. But I’m not.” It’s as straightforward as that.
I’m eagerly anticipating the release of ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ next summer to see how things unfold. For now, Scarlett Johansson is staying authentic and maintaining a healthy distance from Instagram.
