In the DCU Lanterns series, it appears there could be more going on than first meets the eye, as the Black Hand is now being discussed alongside the Guardians and other parties.
Although the formal descriptions and information about the Lanterns series give an impression of a down-to-earth, Earth-bound show, it may not be strictly confined to that setting.
As a die-hard fan of intergalactic justice, I can’t help but be intrigued when my favorite Green Lantern duo, Lanterns Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), delve into the heartland mystery of an unexplained murder. You see, it’s not every day that these cosmic guardians get pulled away from saving the universe to solve a crime on good ol’ Earth. But when duty calls, they answer!
Garret Dillahunt suit up
Initially, we have an intriguing detail about actor Garret Dillahunt, known for his role as William Macon in the show, who seems to embody the antagonist. Interestingly, he is characterized as a “contemporary cowboy” in this series. Dillahunt hinted at a unique aspect of his character, mentioning that William Macon will be seen wearing some kind of attire or outfit.
It’s great to collaborate with the skillful and compassionate team at FracturedFX Inc. for my new venture. They were responsible for creating the tiger-maul effects on Army of the Dead, among other impressive works. True artists in action! I always appreciate a well-fitting rubber suit, and this one should fit like a second skin.
There’s a lot of buzz among fans suggesting that Garret Dillahunt could potentially portray the antagonist, the Black Hand, in the upcoming project. If this turns out to be true, it might pave the way for an adaption of the “Blackest Night” storyline.

Guardians may be involved
Coming next, we have actress Poorna Jagannathan talking about “Lanterns” (translated through X), and mentioning the Guardians and Sinestro.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I’ve found myself utterly captivated by the crafting of the Green Lantern series. Just like how the Deli Boys have masterfully developed their characters, the creators of Green Lantern have done an exceptional job in building my character and those of the series. The writing is so intricate that it allows me to vividly describe each character, and what’s more, we have all our beloved heroes – the Green Lanterns, the Guardians, Sinestro, among others – who continue to stand as both heroes and villains, adding layers of complexity to the storyline. This intricate balance is what makes the writing for Green Lantern not only engaging but truly exceptional.
Previously, it was confirmed that Ulrich Thomsen will portray Sinestro; however, what wasn’t clear was the inclusion of the Guardians in this storyline. The presence of both Sinestro and the Guardians might hint at a setting beyond Earth.
Casting news
Incidentally, fresh updates about the series “Lanterns” unveil Nicole Ari Parker as John Stewart’s mother, Bernadette. This means that Hal Jordan and John Stewart won’t be making an appearance in some ordinary Midwestern city. However, it seems that John Stewart will have a backstory developed for him, at least according to this casting news. The formal description of Bernadette is as follows:
Determined and resilient, Bernadette never backs down, even when faced with seemingly impossible challenges. Deep within, she is a devoted and protective mother, who throughout her life, has tirelessly strived to secure a future for herself and her family that others might overlook.
Release info
In simple terms, James Gunn has announced that the Green Lanterns are scheduled for release in early 2026. Additionally, it’s been confirmed that Kelly Macdonald will portray Sheriff Kerry, who is rumored to be the romantic interest of Hal Jordan, played by Chandler.
The upcoming series will feature a total of eight captivating installments. Chris Mundy serves as the head honcho, while Damon Lindelof and Tom King collaborate on writing and production duties, also serving as executive producers. James Hawes helms direction for the first two episodes and is additionally an executive producer.
