MCU’s Latest Disaster: ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Flops at the Box Office!

It’s evident from their spending habits that Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts are expressing a preference: they seem to be against Anthony Mackie taking on the role of Captain America.

In an unexpected turn of events for Marvel’s productions under Kevin Feige, the recent release “Captain America: A New World Order” has fallen short during its fourth week, managing only a fraction of the $400 million mark it aimed to reach.

Follows major MCU failures

The explosive debut of “Captain America: A Fresh Era” comes after significant setbacks experienced by “The Marvel Collective,” “Quantum Mania,” as well as “Shang-Chi,” “The Eternals,” and “Black Widow.”

In this rephrased version, I’ve aimed to maintain the original meaning while using more natural and easy-to-read language.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Disney+ haven’t been thriving so far, with “Daredevil: Born Again” being one recent instance that illustrates this trend. Interestingly, Disney hasn’t disclosed viewership figures for this show yet—a practice they’ve followed for series like “Loki,” “Percy Jackson,” “Ahsoka,” and even “The Acolyte.” Furthermore, Marvel is said to be reducing the budgets of their Disney+ series, as confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger. It’s also been reported that Iger ordered a decrease in the amount of content produced due to streaming losses.

Lucky to hit $400 million

As for the movie “Captain America: Brave New World“, I had predicted that it might earn around $400 million, but as of the most recent weekend, its total earnings stand at approximately $370.7 million.

According to some sources, the film must earn approximately $425 million in box office sales to cover its costs. However, industry analysts suggest this figure might be inflated due to rewrites and reshoots, implying a more substantial break-even point could exist. It’s been hypothesized that the actual break-even amount is likely higher.

Comparing to Quantuamania

In contrast to Quantumania, Brave New World is showing a slight edge daily at the U.S. box office. If this pattern continues, it could potentially earn an additional $20-$25 million at most.

In a rather surprising turn of events, I must admit that the global reception for Brave New World has been less than anticipated, falling significantly short in foreign markets compared to other productions. For instance, Quantumania managed to rake in close to $40 million in China alone, while Brave New World barely reached $14 million. The same pattern is evident across various international markets, with Brave New World‘s numbers trending downward.

If this trajectory continues, it’s possible that the movie could end up holding the second-lowest international box office of any MCU film, trailing behind only The Marvels. It seems that Brave New World might surpass both Black Widow and potentially Eternals, but overall, its performance is precarious. For the full box office figures, take a look below.

Doomsday for the MCU

It could be more concerning to learn that Anthony Mackie is slated to spearhead a fresh group of Avengers in “Avengers: Doomsday”. There’s speculation that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might replicate the Thanos Snap, which could lead to doomsday for certain characters. Frankly, this could be Kevin Feige and Marvel’s best strategy since nothing from the last six years of the MCU has resonated with fans. Characters like Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Wolverine are the only ones that have managed to maintain their popularity and success.
