Ione Skye Claims Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Got Her Pregnant at 17; Actress Reveals Why She Aborted

Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of substance abuse.

In my own words, I’m sharing an unexpected disclosure from my past, as told in my recently published memoir, Say Everything. As a teenager, I found myself in an unforeseen situation with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ lead singer, Anthony Kiedis – he became the father of my unborn child at the tender age of 17. Faced with a difficult choice, we chose to terminate the pregnancy, a decision that went against my deep-seated desire to experience motherhood since childhood.

As a girl who had dreamt of motherhood since I was as young as a baby, fantasizing about discovering an infant wrapped snugly on my doorstep, I penned this desire in my memoirs. At 54, the esteemed actress shared that she made the difficult decision to end her pregnancy because the timing simply wasn’t suitable for her journey at that moment.

She clearly distinguished between imagining and experiencing parenthood, which helped her comprehend that she wasn’t prepared for motherhood in that moment. This recollection included the incident where the 25-year-old Johnny Cash (Scar Tissue singer) didn’t show up for her abortion appointment due to feelings of guilt.

Although it pained her, she believed it was necessary to make the move. She explained later that she was prioritizing herself, choosing an action that seemed right and crucial for her future. Additionally, she wasn’t interested in having a child with someone who wasn’t ready to be a father, had temper issues, and wouldn’t promise to stand by her.

The British actress additionally pointed out Anthony Kiedis’s struggle with heroin addiction as a significant factor in her choice. In an interview with People magazine, Skye revealed that she felt compelled to speak up due to internet critics scrutinizing her past relationship with Kiedis, now 62 years old, which prompted her to share her personal experiences.

In a bid to clarify the criticism leveled at her on TikTok videos, the River’s Edge actress felt compelled to share her perspective. Given that she had ample insights to share, she opted to pen an all-encompassing memoir. This book delves into various aspects of her life such as relationships, personal experiences, drug use, and sexuality exploration, among other revealing topics.

Apart from sharing details about her strained relationship with her father, Donovan, she mentioned that they’ve been growing closer in more recent times.
