Here’s the official description from Titans Comics and Legendary Comics on Return to Skull Island:
Amidst colossal beasts and treacherous plots, the comic storyline unfolds around a band of castaways marooned on a hazardous island in the South Pacific. As they dig up its ominous mysteries, they encounter perilous obstacles and battle for their lives in a territory where every inhabitant poses danger—even Kong himself. The comic is penned by Simon Furman (Transformers) and adorned with illustrations by Christopher Jones (Doctor Who: Once Upon a Time Lord)).
In what part of the Monsterverse timeline does the new “Return to Skull Island” comic book series fit? As of now, there have been five live-action movies within this saga, with Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla” being the first in 2014. Additionally, an animated show and the series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” also exist. Luckily, a clear infographic is available to help you understand where “Return to Skull Island” takes place, which you can see depicted above. This comic book serves as a ’90s flashback, set in 1993, following the events of the animated show. So, grab your headphones and enjoy reading while grooving to some TLC or Nirvana!
The first action-packed issue of Return to Skull Island hits comic book shops on June 4, 2025.
