Rumors indicate that the Harry Potter television series may be considering Paapa Essiedu for the role of Severus Snape, a beloved character from the novels and films.
Severus Snape was played by the late Alan Rickman in the popular films.
According to THR, if Paapa Essiedu lands the role, it signifies HBO sticking to their commitment of featuring a diverse cast in the series. Notably, it’s been criticized that the Harry Potter films had an exclusively white main cast. If Essiedu is chosen, this could bring a unique perspective to the character.
HBO declined to comment on the casting, instead saying: “Given the popularity of this upcoming series, it’s natural for there to be many rumors and speculations. We’ll only announce confirmed details once we’ve finalized our agreements during pre-production.
Paapa Essiedu has made a name for himself in shows such as “I May Destroy You”, “The Lazarus Project”, “Gangs of London”, and “The Capture”.
Deadline additionally reports that Mark Strong may be considered for the role of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, while it seems Cillian Murphy will not portray Voldemort.
