Daredevil Born Again Review: Charlie Cox’s Hell’s Kitchen has too many cooks and yet not enough broth

In the eagerly awaited series “Daredevil: Born Again,” Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock, the main character. Alongside him are Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Kamar de los Reyes as Hector Ayala (White Tiger), and additional cast members. The show will debut simultaneously on Disney+ worldwide on March 4, 2025, with the first two episodes, and it will consist of a total of nine parts. In India, it will be available on JioHotstar.

We’ve had a sneak peek at the first few episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, and here’s what we can anticipate from the new season. The story kicks off at Josie’s Bar, a familiar setting for fans of the Daredevil series. But the nostalgia quickly gives way to turmoil, with Matt Murdock right in the thick of it. Within moments, you are reminded of the protagonist’s martial arts skills; however, the impact of the blows feels less intense than the high-speed action one might expect.

From day-to-day lawyer Matt Murdock, we see another facet – a stark contrast to his superhero life. This side is barely hinted at amidst the chaos that initiates the season, with Charlie Cox doing his best to slip back into the role. In the much-anticipated comeback of Suits this year, we hoped for a more convincing storyline than the one served up, which seems somewhat undercooked despite its appealing presentation.

While it’s not perfect in every aspect, Daredevil’s unique abilities – his finely tuned senses – are utilized effectively and sequentially, which is commendable. The sound team truly outdid themselves to create an immersive experience that stands out. The music selection could have been more impressive, but we can’t expect perfection in every detail.

Charlie Cox portrays a convincing blind vigilante in New York City, trying to steer clear of its significant affairs but often finds himself drawn in. His budding relationship with Heather Glenn, played by Margarita Levieva, seems to be facing challenges. Vincent D’Onofrio continues to embody the repulsive Wilson Fisk, effectively capturing the essence of his Kingpin character. We eagerly anticipate more of his actions in upcoming episodes. As for Kamar de los Reyes as White Tiger, opinions remain divided; you decide for yourself.

To date, Daredevil: Born Again has offered a blend of positive and negative aspects, with more of the negatives, but the captivating nature of its dramatic progression ensures our continued engagement.
