In Monster Hunter Wilds, finishing Dareel’s Special Research Report involves catching a Gillopod, an uncommon native monster living in the Ruins of Wyveria. Since the Gillopod looks similar to the more common Pillopod, this mission might be tricky. This guide offers tips for finding and capturing a Gillopod effectively.
How to Find a Gillopod in MH Wilds
As a nature enthusiast, I’ve come across some fascinating creatures in the Ruins of Wyveria, and one that stands out is the Gillopod. Unlike its smaller cousin, the Pillopod, this stationary critter prefers to cling to walls and branches rather than scuttle around like the rest. Its unique feature is a flat, rectangular body adorned with distinct blue markings on top, which sets it apart from the more common pink Pillopods. However, spotting a Gillopod can be tricky due to its exceptional camouflage and immobility, making it a challenge for those with keen eyes.
Make sure you’ve got a Capture Net in your supplies, as it’s crucial for trapping immobile creatures such as the Gillopod.
The Gillopod can be found amidst the ruins of Wyveria, nestled between regions 7 and 10. To locate it, make your way to the Wyvern Milk puddle close to Area 8, then scrutinize the grand walls. Keep an eye out for a substantial, flat, grey creature with blue patterns – that’s the Gillopod. Be vigilant as it has the ability to camouflage itself perfectly within its surroundings.
You’ll frequently spot Pillopods in this area, but keep an eye out for the Gillopod too, as it’s larger and boasts a more vivid shade of blue.
Catching the Gillopod
Once you’ve spotted the Gillopod, follow these steps:
- Access your item wheel, select the Capture Net, and keep it ready.
- Hold the aim button to target the Gillopod. When the targeting reticle turns orange, indicating a successful lock-on, press the capture button to secure the creature. The Gillopod’s lack of movement ensures it won’t flee, so it makes for a simple capture.
Returning triumphantly with the Gillopod in tow, make your way to the Windward Plains Base Camp and inform Dareel to wrap up the mission.
As a token of appreciation for your hard work, you’ll receive ten Gloamgrass Buds, five containers filled with Honey, and a total of 300 Guild Points.
Remember that unique creatures such as the Gillopod may not appear every time you search for them. If it’s not there on your initial search, try fast-traveling to a different map and then returning, or take a rest at a campfire or in your tent to change the time of day and weather conditions. Additionally, adjust the game environment settings to “Plenty” as this can influence the spawn rates.
Following these guidelines will help you locate and catch the Gillopod in MH Wilds after you’ve completed Dareel’s Special Research Task.
