As a passionate Monster Hunter Wilds fan, let me share my experience: One of the first formidable creatures I encountered was Quematrice. For those new to the series like myself once upon a time, this battle could represent one of the toughest early challenges due to its swift and agile nature compared to other monsters in the game.
Anticipating its assaults might prove challenging, but understanding its patterns and vulnerabilities will significantly aid in defeating the beast. Here’s an entire guide on how to battle Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to Defeat the Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds
Quematrice Weakness, Location, and Behavior

The Quematrice has two vulnerable areas: its head and its tail. It’s resistant to fire but has a slight vulnerability to water. Inflict water damage on both its head and tail for maximum impact, but any effective weapon will work if used skillfully.
The creature known as the Quematrice wanders across the Windward Plains, particularly near locations 7, 8, and 9. Completing the Hot on Their Tails quest, an essential part of the main storyline, requires defeating the Quematrice. This fight is one of the initial encounters, but in future gameplay, you’ll also come across a more powerful version of it, similar to other Monster Hunter games.
Frequently appearing sluggish, the beast unexpectedly jolts its physique to execute specific attack maneuvers. If you persist in circling the Quematrice without confronting its head, you’ll consistently notice it turning its head towards your location. Although the body remains motionless, it may utilize its tail for surprise attacks.
Quematrice Fight Guide

Despite its small size and agility, the Quematrice occasionally stands still, allowing you to focus on striking its vulnerable areas: the head or tail. Therefore, it’s crucial to maintain a strategic position close to these weak points at all times.
When you strike the tail, be mindful of its direction. If it turns to look at you, it’s probably planning multiple attacks with its tail. It might employ a tail-thrash, striking you if you’re directly behind its tail. Additionally, it could perform a tail-swipe, attacking you as long as you’re near its tail area.

This creature can swirl and perform a fiery tail swipe too, inflicting greater damage and causing the Fireblight status effect upon impact. Being afflicted with Fireblight means continual damage until the burn is soothed using a Nulberry or by simply rolling around. Also, stepping or rolling on water can heal from Fireblight, but two consecutive rolls can put out the fire if you’re not near any water source.
Keep striking the head or the body as a means to dodge the attacks. Be mindful of the injuries it sustains. Should you manage to inflict any wounds, take advantage of the situation and potentially obtain some of the monster’s components.
