One key stat for weapons in Monster Hunter Worlds, often overlooked yet vital to any player’s strategy, is affinity. This article aims to clarify the role of affinity within Monster Hunter Worlds.
What Does Affinity Mean in Monster Hunter Wilds?
In Monster Hunter Wilds, when I refer to the “affinity stat” for weapons, I’m talking about the probability of landing a critical hit. A critical hit is a powerful physical attack that deals more damage compared to a regular hit.
As a dedicated player, I’m always thrilled when I land a critical hit because it not only boosts my damage output by an impressive 25% but also reduces the sharpness of my weapons less than regular hits do. During combat, I can easily spot these critical hits with a distinctive pink line icon floating above the damage figure.
Certain types of weapons may occasionally reduce the damage dealt by 25%, a phenomenon referred to as “negative affinity”. In combat, this is signified by a small blue line symbol appearing below the damage figure.
How to Increase Affinity in Monster Hunter Wilds
Players can boost their bond by using items like weapons, armor, and embellishments that explicitly enhance Affinity. Weapons will display their Affinity rating in the crafting preview, certain armor might possess abilities that amplify this stat, and some decorations could raise affinity for particular weapons or attacks. Keep an eye out for these skills to boost your affinity:
1. Affinity Boost (or similar)
2. Skills that enhance Weapon Affinity
3. Skills that augment Special Attack Affinity
- Agitator: Increases attack power and affinity when large monsters become enraged
- Antivirus: Once infected, makes it easier to overcome the Frenzy and increases affinity if cured
- Critical Draw: Increases affinity when performing draw attacks
- Critical Eye: Increases affinity
- Foray: Increases attack power and affinity against large monsters affected by poison or paralysis
- Latent Power: Temporarily increases affinity and reduces stamina depletion when certain conditions are met
- Maximum Might: Increases affinity if stamina is kept full for a period of time
- Tetrad Shot: Increases affinity of bowgun ammo/coatings from the fourth shot and attack of the fourth and sixth shots
- Weakness Exploit: Increases the affinity of attacks that exploit a monster’s weak points and wounds
