Oscars 2025: Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Anora, and More; Here Are Our Predictions For Who’s Going to Snatch the Big Categories

2025 will see a grand finale for this year’s award season with the Oscars, as they often do. There’s an interesting trend in who takes home the Academy Awards, possibly due to the influence of other award ceremonies on voting.

After Demi Moore’s triumph at the Golden Globes, she was seen as the strong favorite for the Leading Actress category. However, Mickey Madison’s BAFTA win for Anora might have affected Moore’s chances of securing victory somewhat.

At the start of awards season, Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez was considered a strong contender for Best Picture. However, after lead actress Karla Sofía Gascón faced criticism on social media due to a resurfaced controversial tweet, a controversy erupted, which may have sealed the film’s fate at the Oscars.

Do you think this year’s Academy Awards will be unpredictable? Here’s our prediction:

Best Picture

In this particular category, Anora: The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave (which is highly favored due to its positive reception during the awards season under the guidance of director Edward Berger), Dune Part II, Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here, The Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked are all potential winners. We’re leaning towards Conclave for our prediction.

In a surprising twist, the suspenseful mystery appears to have the lead, but if the Academy chooses to acknowledge an unusual independent film like Anora, it could certainly signal a shift in the Academy’s preferences and values.

Actress in a Leading Role

While it’s tough to definitively say who will emerge victorious in this particular category, we’re leaning towards Demi Moore for The Substance. Her journey towards the Oscars has had some obstacles, such as Mickey Maddison’s BAFTA win and Fernanda Torres claiming the best actress title in the drama category at the Golden Globes.

Indeed, the affection bestowed upon Moore during this awards season is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. Her extraordinary performance in that body horror film truly warrants every accolade coming her way.

Actor in a Leading Role

In the category he was nominated, Adrien Brody triumphed by earning a Golden Globe, Critics Choice award, and BAFTA for his role in The Brutalist. Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan secured the Best Actor Golden Globe for musical or comedy categories. Last but not least, Timothée Chalamet received the SAG award for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

This situation appears akin to the successful run Cillian Murphy and Oppenheimer experienced last year. Given their widespread appeal, we anticipate that Brody has a strong chance of winning an Oscar.

Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role

Throughout the entire season, Zoe Saldana as Emilia Pérez and Kieran Culkin as A Real Pain have dominated the Supporting Role category without fail. This year, they’ve swept every award for this category. It’s unfortunate that the Oscars are so predictable, but it seems like the winners in the Supporting category are already decided.

Best Director

In this ambiguous class, there’s a possibility that anyone could claim the prize. The surveys point towards Sean Baker, director of Anora, potentially receiving an award for his independent film. Yet, we’re also hopeful that Jon M Chu will triumph for his work on the adored blockbuster musical, Wicked.
