Netflix’s Cobra Kai Creators Reveal They Are Planning a Pitch for a Spin-Off of the Iconic Back to the Future

The creators of Cobra Kai, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg have shared details about their idea for a Back To The Future series, revealing how they carefully planned each plot point to guide the Netflix show towards its predestined ending.

In a twist for fans, the sixth and last season of Cobra Kai, featuring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, has just landed on Netflix, boasting a total of 15 episodes. But here’s an interesting twist: the creative minds behind this series have something else brewing in their thoughts.

In their imaginative proposal, the showrunners suggested reviving the Back to the Future franchise by setting it in an alternative 1985. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, they also considered having Michael J. Fox take on the director’s role for this project.

According to Hurwitz, Schlossberg previously appeared on Cobra Kai in a role as Terry Silver’s attorney. In their scene together, they portrayed writer-producers discussing a fresh concept for an ’80s property. The conversation had a self-referential quality, reminiscent of the early stages when Cobra Kai was first being developed.

“But in this case, we were discussing a spinoff series of Back to the Future,” he added.

Yet, they acknowledged that this kind of project seems highly improbable due to the consistent opposition from franchise originators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, who have consistently refused any attempts to prolong the storyline.

Hurwitz explained, “It’s something highly unlikely since Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale have expressed no interest in another Back to the Future venture. However, if they happen to enjoy the finale of Cobra Kai and express curiosity for more, that’s where our pitch begins.

All six seasons of Cobra Kai are available on Netflix.
